Curtis Island off the central coast of Queensland, Australia, is 50 km south east of Rockhampton, and 475 km northwest of the capital, Brisbane. It is a short ferry ride from the large town of Gladstone which lies on the shores of Port Curtis - Queensland's busiest harbour. It is the site of major industries and home to the world's largest alumina plant. From the parklands to the marina, the gallery to the botanic gardens and the nearby beach communities, there is no shortage of places for visitors and residents to enjoy their favourite pastimes.
The facilities and accommodation for visitors is first class in one of Queensland's tidiest towns on the Great Barrier Reef. Curtis Island is a paradise with some 15,000 hectares of conservation parkland teeming with birdlife. The island has been owned by the Wilhelm Family since 1909 and is managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. The island hosts one of Australia's greatest national parks which consists of mangroves twisting through salty mud flats with pockets of eucalypt forest throughout. The national park encompasses the Cape Capricorn headland.
